You want to use colors for coordination purpose, here’s how to do it. Here’s the initial Section view
Go to Visibility/Graphics and make sure you check Show categories from all disciplines. This will display all the Structural and MEP categories.
To first show the the Structural Elements in blue you could simply change the Projection lines from the Model Categories but that will also change the Structural Elements from your model.![]()
To achieve what were after you will need to go to Revit Links and click By Host View for the Structural Model.
Under the Basics tab we need to change By host view to Custom, this will allow us to control the Visibility as if we were directly in the Structural model.
Then under Model Categories, change <By host view> to <Custom>. You can now access all the categories. Scroll down to the structural elements and change their display to let’s say blue.
I suggest to change both Projection and Cut since we might be cutting through some Structural elements while in a section view.
Here’s the result
Now apply the same concepts to the MEP model
You know have a clear pictures of Architectural versus Engineering elements
Be careful when navigating the Link files Visibility/Graphics because if you set the display back to <By host view> by mistake (like by scrolling your mouse wheel) you loose all changes.
I also suggest that you save the View Template.
You can then quickly apply it to other views.
You could achieve the same thing with Filter but i find it faster to use a View Template because i can apply it to multiple views at the same time.
